R&R Medical Aesthetics is a cosmetic procedure that uses a unique solution to remove damaged outer layers of skin. It stimulates the production of new, healthy skin cells and can improve a wide range of cosmetic issues, including fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin color, hyper pigmentation/melasma, sun damage, acne and other skin disorders. It can also be used to treat scars and enlarged pores.
There is a low risk of scarring after a chemical peel. There is also a slight chance that the peel will trigger cold sores in people with herpes who have them, although there are medications that can be taken before the peel to reduce the risk. People who have a history of keloids or scarring tendencies may also have an increased risk of developing these problems after a peel.

OHSU cosmetic and plastic surgeons have the expertise to choose the best type of peel for you based on your skin type and the results you want to achieve. A light ("lunchtime") peel offers subtle improvement and is a good choice for those with mild scars, fine wrinkling or sun damage and aging,
uneven skin coloring or dry rough skin.
Before the peel, your OHSU dermatologist will cleanse the areas to be treated. If you are having a medium or deep peel, your doctor may pretreatment the skin with retinoic acid, a prescription topical medication derived from vitamin A, which will help thin out the surface of the skin so the chemical can work more evenly. Then, he or she will apply the chemical solution to the skin. You may feel a warm to hot sensation that lasts a few minutes, followed by a slight stinging. The doctor will then wash off the chemical and may apply a cooling compress.
